The 80% to 10% window is the range most drivers plan a road trip around: you rarely arrive at a charger empty, and you rarely wait for 100%. Cold weather costs range twice, through denser air and the cabin heater; the 20°F figure has both.
Tuned against evchargingstations.com's detailed 10%->80% test on a V3.5 Supercharger (35 min 4 sec, 323kW peak held 12%->21% SoC, 152kW average, ~90-95kW by 80% SoC, 1.2C average - simulated 34.5 min at 323kW peak, 150kW average, 1.22C). base_wh_per_mile from Tesla's own quoted 42.9kWh/100mi combined figure (the AWD trim was not yet EPA certified at time of writing); a 70mph/46F Out of Spec highway test independently measured ~490 Wh/mile at that speed and temperature, consistent with this baseline once the app's speed/cold multipliers are layered on - no named benchmark in the spec.
The charge session is integrated across 1% state-of-charge steps on the curve above, with the cold-weather intake limit applied below 68°F.
